Lawyer Overview

Luis Muñoz has a strong background in banking law and has represented many Spanish and foreign banks and companies with all kinds of transactions.

Luis focuses on project finance transactions involving renewable energy, such as wind parks, solar plants, mini hydraulic plants, and biomass and cogeneration plants, and infrastructure (toll roads, highways, and hotels). He also has extensive experience in acquisition financing, mergers and acquisitions, and company law. A list of clients he has represented includes: ABN AMRO Bank N.V.; Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA); Banco Español de Crédito (Banesto); Banco Santander; Caixanova; Caja Madrid; Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO); La Caixa; Mizuho Corporate Bank; The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi; The Royal Bank of Scotland; Falck Renewables, Limited; Unión Fenosa and Unión Fenosa Internacional; Acciona; Elecnor; Grupo FCB Tapsa; and De Lage Landen International.

Before joining Jones Day, Luis worked as in-house counsel at a Spanish bank (1976-1980) and at the Spanish branch of ABN AMRO Bank N.V. (1980-1985). Luis had his own law practice in Madrid from 1985 to 1993, and in 1993, he became one of the founding partners of Teña, Muñoz y Asociados. He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.
