Lawyer Overview
Dr. Law focuses his practice on patent prosecution, opinions, and agreements relating to the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. Before attending law school, Dr. Law earned a doctoral degree in organic and polymer chemistry under the guidance of Prof. Alan Katritzky. Later, he worked as a research chemist developing new technologies and as a patent agent patenting such technologies for a multinational conglomerate. He also worked for a research laboratory in a diversified international company as an IP manager overseeing an extensive patent portfolio on printing ink technology. As a research chemist, patent agent, and in his other professional experiences, Dr. Law identified commercially valuable inventions and managed extensive patent portfolios. Dr. Law has gained significant experience in numerous technologies, including polymer chemistry, coatings, lubricants, extrusion and injection molding, ceramics, microencapsulation, abrasives, printing technology, and pharmaceuticals.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2005, Dr. Law was an associate in an IP boutique firm. He has published seven papers and received 38 U.S. patents as a named inventor. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Minnesota Bar Association, and the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association.
