Summary
Lawyer Overview
Tad Nelson is a native Texan, born and raised on Galveston Island. In 1983, Mr. Nelson graduated from Ball High School before leaving for Austin to attend the University of Texas.
In 1991, Mr. Nelson returned to Galveston where he served as an Assistant District Attorney for three years under the direct supervision of Michael J. Guarino. Mr. Guarino was elected District Attorney of Galveston County in 1982 and served in that capacity until he stepped down in 2003 to enter private practice after five terms. During his time in the District Attorney's office, Mr. Nelson learned the ins and outs of the criminal law field and gained a new perspective on the system and those who found themselves in the middle of it.
Realizing that he wanted to build a law practice to help those he encountered during his time as an Assistant District Attorney, Mr. Nelson began building a criminal defense practice in 1995 that focused on the client's well being rather than the fee the client could generate. After five years of private practice in Galveston, Mr. Nelson expanded his vision and opened the doors to a second office in League City in 2000.
With two offices, Mr. Nelson extended his practice to cover the surrounding counties and continued to focus on the well being of the client. At Tad Nelson & Associates, this means helping the client understand the process, explaining the obstacles the client faces, and most importantly, assuring the client that he is a priority and that Mr. Nelson will work to get the best outcome. It's Mr. Nelson's years of experience and desire to help that leaves clients feeling that they are getting big city experience but with a small town feel.
At Tad Nelson & Associates, we understand that being arrested can be a traumatic experience. From the initial visit to the jail to the stress and anxiety of meeting with an attorney, the entire process can be taxing and intimidating. At Tad Nelson & Associates, we take the time to talk to the client and answer questions he might have concerning the alleged offense and the road ahead. Mr. Nelson's extensive experience representing clients accused of such crimes as Disorderly Conduct, Sexual Assault, DWI, Possession of Controlled Substances, Aggravated Assault and Murder, to name a few, allow Mr. Nelson to better relate to anyone walking through his door. At Tad Nelson & Associates, we understand that charges are as diverse as those accused and each person experiences different personal and professional stresses.
As a result, Mr. Nelson has dedicated himself to professional excellence so you can rest assured that you are in good hands. Not only does Mr. Nelson complete more than the required hours of continuing education required by the State Bar, but he continuously travels to various colleges and seminars to stay on top of the latest legal and technical issues. For example, Mr. Nelson is not only certified to administer the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests given during a DWI stop, but he is also certified to teach the certification class to law enforcement. This dedication to excellence allows Mr. Nelson to quickly identify issues with your case and accurately answer your questions.
Currently, Mr. Nelson is pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Forensic Toxicology through the University of Florida to better assist his clients in DWI and drug cases. This additional education will allow Mr. Nelson to better understand the science involved while analyzing the legal issues associated with DWI blood draws, the interactions and effects of medications currently being prescribed for common conditions such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder, and testing procedures in drug cases.
In addition to his strong work ethic, Mr. Nelson also strives to remain active in his community. He has served in numerous capacities throughout Galveston and League City including service on the League City Council and acting as President of the Gulf Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters. Through his 10+ years of service with Big Brothers Big Sisters, membership in the Galveston Rotary Club and the League City Lions Club, and sponsoring such activities as Bowl for Kids Sake, Meals on Wheels yearly Christmas funds drive, Yaga's Wild Game Cook-Off, and the League City Village Fair, Mr. Nelson stays involved and takes pride in making his community a better place to live.
When you meet with Tad Nelson, you will immediately feel these small town values in his approach to your case. Since Mr. Nelson's first priority is your well being, you'll notice that your meeting with him will focus on your case and your concerns, not his fee. If you want a law firm that will take the time and interest in your case, call Tad Nelson & Associates and get the Big City Experience on your side.
