Lawyer Overview
Mahoney graduated with honors from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He then attended Temple University in Philadelphia, PA where he graduated 4th in his class of 125. After medical school, Mahoney moved to Denver, Colorado and practiced for several years as an obstetrician/gynecologist. He then served for three years as a captain in the United States Army Medical Corps. During his time in the Army, Mahoney had the opportunity to testify as a treating doctor in a military court matter. This exposure sparked his interest in the law, and eventually he decided to attend law school. In 1968 he graduated first in his class from Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the law review and received several academic awards.
After law school, Mahoney moved back to Denver and entered private practice as a medical malpractice defense lawyer. As a partner at the law firm of Johnson & Mahoney, he defended doctors in malpractice cases for approximately twenty-two years. In 1990, Mahoney established his own law firm and began representing victims of medical malpractice. His sons Paul and Kevin joined his firm in 1993 and 1995 respectively. Mahoney's excellence has been recognized by his peers as he has been listed in the book The Best Lawyers in America. Mahoney has been married to his wife Lavonne for 48 years. They have four sons and 13 grandchildren.
