Lawyer Overview
"I work to help individuals avoid the courthouse in resolving their family law disputes. Divorces and modification suits are hard enough without burdening the couple with the gristmill of litigation. I firmly believe that, equipped with the right team of collaborative professionals to guide you, you and your spouse will be able to negotiate an agreement that is more creative, more beneficial, and more satisfying than anything a perfect stranger in a black robe could devise." - Curtis Harrison
Mr. Harrison maintains a full case load in which he assists his clients transition through the traumatic consequences of divorce, child custody, termination of parental rights, and other family law matters. He is trained in the art of Collaborative Law in addition to his extensive family law litigation experience. He also handles civil litigation and estate planning matters, and provides counsel to a number of business entities in the North Texas community.
Mr. Harrison lives in McKinney with his wife and children, and actively serves Rhea’s Mill Baptist Church in Prosper. Mr. Harrison is licensed by the Texas Supreme Court to practice in Texas State courts and has been admitted to practice in the Federal District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas. He is a member of the College of the State Bar, the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, and is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Family law problems involve life-altering decisions that often must be made while under extreme stress. Curtis Harrison understands that. When you need the assistance of a family lawyer, you can turn to Curtis as an experienced guide who acts on principles of integrity and honesty. Following a solutions-oriented approach, he helps his clients navigate the unfamiliar territory of family law to reach their goals effectively and efficiently.
Curtis takes the time to understand each client’s circumstances, and then maps out the available options at each decision point in the case. He works with clients to choose the best route, whether through mediation, collaborative law, or litigation, to accomplish their most important objectives.
As a partner working in the Plano office of Goranson Bain, Curtis serves a range of professional clients who live in Collin County, along with Grayson, Dallas and Denton Counties. With over 17 years of litigation experience, Curtis is very comfortable dealing with the intricacies of complex property issues.
Curtis also has a passion for the sensitive issues involved in child custody cases. As a father of three children, he is especially interested in shielding children from the impact of divorce, and he works vigorously to make their voices heard. Curtis is known for exploring parenting options with clients, and helping them develop customized plans that benefit the children and achieve his clients’ goals.
Curtis is a graduate of Baylor University School of Law, and is board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Collin County Bar Association and the Dallas Bar Association. In addition, Curtis serves on the Board of Directors for the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas
