Summary

Lawyer Overview

Joshua Koskoff represents the third generation of Koskoffs at KK&B. Known for his dedication, compassion and creativity, Josh brings all of his cases a fresh and unique perspective. He believes strongly in the role of the law as an agent to improve his client’s lives. His personal concern for the welfare of each of his clients has won their trust and devotion.

Josh has won major verdicts in courtrooms throughout Connecticut on behalf of clients who have been permanently harmed or killed because of severe medical malpractice. Many of these victories were in cases where the insurance companies refused to offer any money, believing that they would win. These verdicts include a $22 million verdict - one of the largest verdicts of record in Bridgeport and, at the time, the largest in Connecticut history - in a 2007 case where Josh represented the widow of a 49-year-old man who died because his heart condition was misdiagnosed.

In 2005, Josh won a verdict of almost $2.5 million on behalf of a young girl who suffered a serious birth trauma injury relating to the nerves of her shoulder (the "brachial plexus") from a shoulder dystocia at birth. The Waterbury verdict is the highest on record for a birth related brachial plexus injury case in Connecticut.

In 2001 Josh represented a medical professional – a nurse anesthetist – whose stroke was misdiagnosed, winning an $800,000 verdict from a Litchfield jury. In all three of these cases the insurance company did not offer any money, forcing litigation. In 2003, Josh won an $810,000 award from a Stamford jury on behalf of an 89-year-old woman whose doctor botched a surgery to repair a leg fracture causing even further fractures. The insurance company had refused to settle the case years earlier for $500,000, and never offered a red cent until the time of trial at which point, it offered less than the medical bills.

Josh’s earlier courtroom litigation experience includes numerous complex medical malpractice claims as well as other negligence cases. He was co-counsel on a trial in 1999 that resulted in a $1.1 million verdict from a New Britain jury for a 72-year-old woman who lost vision in one eye during a cataract procedure, and in a case in Waterbury where the jury returned a verdict for over $2 million for a man who suffered a brachial plexus injury because of bad positioning on an operating room table for a hernia repair.

While Josh has won meaningful personal injury verdicts for his clients in court, he has also handled numerous other complex medical malpractice cases that have resulted in settlements in excess of $1 million.

These settlements have helped his clients to have better and more satisfying lives. Josh has also participated in other cases that do not involve bad medical care. For example, he represented a victim in a well-publicized med-evacuation crash and obtained a multi million dollar settlement. Josh has also provided free representation under Trial Lawyers Care to a family who lost a father/husband in the World Trade Center on 9/11. He frequently lectures to other lawyers on various aspects of trial work.

In 2004 the Connecticut Law Tribune named Josh a "new leader of the law" for his achievements.
