During his career, Mike Gladman has successfully represented clients in disputes encompassing a wide variety of areas and issues, including commercial contracts and torts, public pensions, public bidding, construction, bankruptcy, First Amendment, public records, and securities. Mike has appeared before numerous administrative agencies, trial courts, and appellate courts, including the Ohio Supreme Court.

Recently, Mike was part of a Jones Day trial team that secured a judgment in the Southern District of New York on behalf of American Electric Power in a contractual dispute over the 20-year sale of power from an 820 megawatt generating facility in Louisiana. He was also part of the Jones Day appellate team that successfully argued to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals that the trial court's liability determination should be affirmed and the case remanded to the trial court to set AEP's damages. After remand, the parties settled the case, with AEP receiving a total payment of $263 million.

In addition, Mike acted as lead trial and appellate counsel for a public retirement system and successfully defended a challenge to the system's authority to change its retiree health care plan in order to save approximately $70 million per year. He also recently served as lead trial counsel in obtaining a summary judgment dismissal of breach of contract and misappropriation of design claims against a tool manufacturer.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Mike served in the Ohio Attorney General's Office for nearly five years. In that capacity, he represented various Ohio state agencies, including the Division of Securities, the Division of Financial Institutions, the Office of the State Architect, the Office of State Purchasing, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and the School Facilities Commission. Mike was selected three times to be a member of the Ohio Attorney General's Major Appeals Group and worked with the state solicitor in appeals involving noteworthy and particularly complex issues. In addition, Mike received the Attorney General's Professionalism Award for outstanding contributions to the Attorney General's Office.

Mike has served as an appellate advocacy adjunct professor at the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University, and he is a member of the Ohio State and Columbus Bar Associations.
