Lawyer Overview

Joe Finley has substantial experience handling complicated litigation matters in federal and state courts. Over the course of his career, he has represented corporate officers and directors in shareholder derivative and class action lawsuits involving allegations of stock options backdating, securities fraud, and corporate governance issues, as well as represented companies and board committees in internal investigations and SEC matters. He also has handled complex commercial disputes for clients in the automotive, electronics, software, building products, health care, and radio industries. He has extensive trial experience, having represented the government as lead counsel in a dozen felony jury trials and more than 50 fully contested or partially contested bench trials and sentencing hearings in military courts. As lead counsel, he has successfully represented clients in arbitrations and hearings for injunctive relief as well as hearings on motions for summary judgment and other significant pretrial issues.

Before attending law school, Joe was an account specialist at the national public relations firm of Porter Novelli in Los Angeles, where he worked on public affairs issues involving California’s aerospace industry, several pharmaceutical companies, and the fiberglass manufacturing industry.

Joe has lectured before The Florida Bar Military Affairs Committee and has served as an instructor at the United States Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island on the subject of pretrial litigation in death penalty cases.
