Julie is a shareholder in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. She is a member of the Financial Institutions and Real Estate Section and practices primarily in the areas of:

With more than eight years of experience, Julie has concentrated her practice on representing banks and other financial institutions, real estate development companies, and real estate investment funds in a variety of commercial real estate and finance transactions. In recent years, she has had a particular focus on real estate acquisitions and dispositions involving multi-property, multi-state portfolios.

Julie’s commercial lending experience includes handling multi-site franchise financing transactions, real estate loans, asset-based financing and workouts. She also has significant experience representing both lenders and creditors in facilitating construction loan financing for office, industrial, retail and condominium projects located throughout the country. In the area of commercial leasing, Julie works closely with landlords and tenants on a variety of leasing arrangements, including multimillion-dollar ground leases.

Julie also has built a telecommunications practice through which she has experience with the sale of wholesale and retail transport services, and negotiating contracts for the sale of telecommunications equipment and services.

Recent representative transactions include:

  • Represented a national real estate investment fund in the portfolio sale of 17 office and industrial facilities located in nine states with an aggregate purchase price of over $235 million, closing simultaneously;
  • Represented a national real estate investment fund in the simultaneous sale of a portfolio of 12 office and industrial facilities located across nine states, with an aggregate purchase price of over $202 million;
  • Representation of a national real estate developer in connection with the restructuring of a condominium construction loan in Florida in excess of $80 million;
  • Negotiation of over 60 commercial leases throughout the U.S. and its territories over the course of one year on behalf of an educational company tenant;
  • Representation of a national bank in a $19 million real estate construction loan transaction for an office facility in Wisconsin;
  • Acting as real estate counsel for a franchisee in the acquisition, from the national franchisor, of fee and ground leasehold interests in a portfolio of 37 quick-serve restaurant sites;
  • Representation of a national franchise finance lender in the financing of over 20 loans secured by nationwide franchise restaurant sites with some transactions involving a single loan for portfolios of up to 15 restaurant locations;
  • Representation of a poultry company with a Minnesota mini-PACA claim as a creditor in the bankruptcy of a national mega food distributor, where most of the client's $1 million claim in the bankruptcy was recovered; and
  • Representation of an enterprise telecommunications services provider in the negotiation of the retail sale of telecommunications equipment and services integrating multiple nationwide locations of a Fortune 500 financial company.

Julie is a member of the Minnesota State and American Bar associations, as well as Minnesota Women Lawyers. She has been listed as a "Minnesota Rising Star" in Minnesota Law & Politics.

Born in Edina, Minnesota, Julie received her B.S. summa cum laude in chemistry from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. She received her law degree magna cum laude from University of Minnesota Law School, where she was a managing editor of the Minnesota Law Review and elected to the Order of the Coif. Julie joined Briggs in 2001.
