Nicolosi founded our Rockford firm in 1948; our roots in the community help us foster the relationships that help businesses grow. In 1948, Philip A. Nicolosi, a newly minted graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, began to practice law in Rockford. He acted as a justice of the peace through out the 1960s and was a well-respected member of the growing bar in Winnebago County and as a member of his community. Mr. Nicolosi was noted for his municipal expertise and solution-oriented approach to the practice of law. He was truly one of the gentlemen of the bar who sought out amicable solutions to legal disputes.

From these historic roots, Nicolosi & Associates has grown to a law firm of dedicated and respected attorneys with professional paralegal and staff support. Maintaining the tradition of family involvement and direction, two Philip A. Nicolosi, of Nicolosi's sons joined the firm: Philip J. in 1985, now of counsel, and Paul in 1990, now managing partner. In 2002, grandson, Philip III, represented the third generation to join the firm and in 2004, Nicolosi’s son, Dr. Frank J. Nicolosi completed law school and will be joining in the family’s tradition of providing outstanding client representation.

Nicolosi & Associates has always paid close attention to client needs and goals, and as those needs have changed and grown, so to has the breadth and depth of our expertise. In 1992, the leadership of our real estate practice was recognized when the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) chose Nicolosi & Associates as its exclusive closing agent for Cook and the surrounding six counties. This opportunity fueled the growth of the firm’s affiliated title company, Midwest Title & Surety Agency, which became one of the largest title insurance agencies in Illinois and then developed a national presence while gaining an increasing share of HUD’s closing business. Ultimately, Midwest Title was purchased by Stewart Title Company, and Paul Nicolosi completed his tenure as its president and CEO in 1997.

Through the late 1990s, the firm grew in size and stature, adding experienced attorneys to serve clients in a wide range of practice areas, including Corporate and Partnership Law; Creditors’ Rights, Collections and Bankruptcy; Commercial Transactions; Real Estate and Environmental Law; Estate Planning and Wealth Management; Closely Held Businesses; Litigation and Mediation; Municipal Law and Finance; Labor and Employment Law; and Personal Injury. In 1999, to continue the family’s long tradition of service to the community and the legal profession, the corporation of Nicolosi & Associates P.C. was formed.
