Judge Stahl was appointed to the First Circuit Court of Appeals in June 1992 and assumed senior status on April 16, 2001. He graduated from Tufts College in 1952 and Harvard Law School in 1955. He served as law clerk to Justice John V. Spalding of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts from 1955 to 1956. From 1956 to 1990, Judge Stahl worked in private practice in Manchester, New Hampshire, until he was appointed U.S. District Judge for the District of New Hampshire in 1990.
