Lawyer Overview
Matt Hoyt focuses his practice on representing management clients in all employment-related matters, including federal and state employment discrimination litigation, defense of charges filed with the EEOC and state civil rights commissions, and compliance with workplace regulations such as the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Mr. Hoyt's litigation successes include:
- Obtained defense verdict in workplace defamation trial
- Member of trial team that obtained defense verdict in gender discrimination case
- Summary judgment dismissal of claims for race, disability, age and gender discrimination, workplace harassment, defamation, negligent supervision, whistleblower retaliation, intentional tort and premises liability
- Defense of appeals before the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and various Ohio appellate courts
Mr. Hoyt also represents employers and individuals in employment-related immigration matters. He has prepared successful petitions for permanent residency (“green cards”) and a variety of temporary work visas (H-1B, H-2B, L-1, TN). In addition, he frequently counsels employers on I-9 and E-Verify compliance issues.
Mr. Hoyt is a member of the American, Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations, as well as the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He also serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for Southeast, Inc., a nonprofit mental health and recovery organization.
