Exposure to asbestos, either by breathing or ingestion of asbestos fibers, can cause many different types of diseases including: mesothelioma, lung cancer, cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, asbestosis, and respiratory disorders.  Diseases associated with asbestos exposure can result in death or severe disability.  Virtually all cases of mesothelioma are fatal.
