Lawyer Overview
Mark Cody's practice focuses primarily on corporate bankruptcy, restructuring, and other insolvency-related matters. In recent years he has been involved in Jones Day's representation of debtors, lenders, creditors' committees, and other parties in large corporate restructurings across the country, including the representation of the debtors in the chapter 11 cases of Performance Transportation Services, Slater Steel, NationsRent, FLYi/Independence Air, National Century Financial Enterprises, Laidlaw, USG Corporation, Loewen Group (n/k/a the Alderwoods Group), Imperial Home Decor, Montgomery Ward Holding Corp., Purina Mills, and Tultex Corporation; the official committee of retired employees in the chapter 11 cases of Tower Automotive; the official committee of unsecured creditors in the chapter 11 cases of MobileMedia Communications and Mercury Finance; and the administrative agent to the pre- and postpetition secured lenders in the National Equipment Services cases.
Other chapter 11 cases in which he has been involved include Edison Brothers Stores (1999 filing), The J. Peterman Company, and NutraMax Products. He also has provided insolvency-related advice to Firm clients in the litigation and transactional contexts, including fraudulent conveyance and preferential transfer matters and distressed acquisition transactions.
Mark is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Illinois State Bar Association, and The Chicago Bar Association. He is admitted to practice at the federal level in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
