Lawyer Overview

William Hsu has broad experience in planning, structuring, and implementing many projects involving international investments, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, technology transfers, and other corporate transactions for multinational corporations in high-tech, telecommunications, consumer products, petrochemicals, financial services, and venture capital industries. Since the liberalization of Taiwan's mobile telecommunications market, he has advised on the formation of several joint ventures to bid for the licenses of cellular phone and paging services.

William also has extensive experience in cross-border and local mergers and acquisitions. He helped in M&A transactions of foreign companies in Taiwan as well as Taiwan companies' offshore M&A deals. He also has substantial experience in the areas of corporate finance and securities transactions, including offerings of GDRs and other securities, private placements, structured finance, and syndicated loans. He participated in the design of an innovative equity issuance having debt characteristics with less cost to finance a semiconductor wafer fabrication facility of a strategic alliance formed by multinational corporations. In addition, he has advised on employee stock ownership plans and assisted with the establishment of offshore investment funds and investments by foreign institutional investors in Taiwan-listed securities.

William is very active in the business and legal communities. He co-chaired the Telecommunications Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei and has lectured on technology transfer and international franchise at several executive programs of the China Productivity Center and on intellectual property licensing and transactions at the Institute of Technology Law at National Chiao Tung University. He is a member of New York State Bar Association.
