Lawyer Overview

Yasumi Ochi has substantial experience in a wide range of practice areas, including real estate securitization, structured finance, M&A, and antitrust law. He has represented the financiers of real estate transactions (such as life insurance companies and a major leasing company), a hotel group, and M&A and MBO dealings in the telecommunications industries. Yasumi also has counseled several companies on their workout and corporate reorganization activities. Yasumi is extremely knowledgeable in antitrust law, and he actively participated in the policy process of modernization of the antimonopoly laws of Japan in 2005.

Yasumi has lectured at Waseda University Graduate School of Law and was a visiting research fellow at the Commission Competition Policy Research Center (CPRC). He is author of Japan-U.S.-EU Antitrust Law (2005) and Economic analysis in merger control (2005). Yasumi also coauthored the Japanese chapter of the 2005 and 2006 versions of The International Comparative Legal Guide to: Merger Control (Global Legal Group).

Prior to joining Jones Day, Yasumi practiced at a major law firm in Japan where he advised on such matters as the securitization of commercial facilities, including hotels, M&A, corporate restructuring and rehabilitation, and antitrust law. Yasumi has also practiced at law firms in New York, Washington, D.C., and London.
