For the last 175 years, Potter Anderson & Corroon has maintained a firm
belief in the importance of a sound client commitment. Since Andrew Gray first
opened the law office in 1826, the firm has worked closely with each of its
clients, identifying their legal challenges and creating cost-effective and
creative solutions that exceed the client's expectations. The firm has gathered
a talented team of lawyers, each of whom has a keen understanding of the
importance of responding to a client's needs and the knowledge and insight
necessary to do so.
The firm's extensive history illustrates the commitment of its membersnot
just to their practice but to serving the public in legal and corporate
communities locally and nationwide. The firm's lawyers have served as members of
the Delaware Court of Chanceryconsidered the leading business court in the
countryas well as the Delaware Supreme Court, federal bench, and the United
States Senate. Members also have held key positions with the American and
Delaware State Bar Associations.
As a confirmation of their expertise, attorneys are frequently invited to
lecture on a variety of issues and publish scholarly articles for legal
publications. Recently, two of the firm's attorneys authored "Corporate
and Commercial Practice in the Delaware Court of Chancery" (Lexis Law
Publishing, 1998), a recognized and respected treatise that is frequently
cited by the courts of Delaware. Another attorney recently has written a book
entitled "Privileged Communications and the Delaware Corporation"
(CCH 2000), a study of corporate and commercial privilege litigation in the
Delaware courts.
Potter Anderson & Corroon attorneys also maintain leadership positions in
the local corporate bar. Two attorneys are members of the Corporate Council of
the Delaware State Bar Association, playing an integral role in the annual
update of Delaware's General Corporation Law. Another attorney is a member of
the Partnership and Business Trust Committees, which are responsible for
drafting and updating the Delaware Revised Uniform Limited Partnership Act, the
Delaware Revised Uniform Partnership Act, the Delaware Limited Liability Company
Act, and the Delaware Business Trust Act.
The firm's lawyers also have played a continuous role in the rule-making arms
of the Delaware trial and appellate courts, on the Supreme Court Rules Committee
and the Delaware District Court Advisory Committee.
