Lawyer Overview
Lee Coffey's practice focuses on complex international litigation and arbitration. He deals with a wide range of contentious matters, including banking, company, and commercial law (in particular, shareholder and related disputes), IT, international trade, and energy. He has particular experience in multijurisdictional disputes, and of the collateral issues that arise in this context, having acted for clients involved in proceedings before courts in the U.S., the Russian Federation, and the Eastern Caribbean (particularly the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands).
Lee's recent representations include successfully defending one of the worldwide leaders in production of spirits from a multimillion euro claim in arbitration, representing IIG Capital in obtaining a landmark ruling in the Court of Appeal in relation to guarantor liabilities, and in an arbitration dispute (with related injunctive proceedings in various jurisdictions) regarding the exercise of a multimillion euro share option in a publicly listed European company. Currently, he is engaged in a number of arbitrations involving a wide variety of subject matters from shipbuilding to insurance and several "offshore" disputes, including a shareholder derivative action in the Cayman Islands.
Lee is the London coordinator for the New Lawyers Group (trainee solicitors) and the partner responsible for training lawyers in London.
