HISTORY OF WHITE PECK CARRINGTON, LLP
White Peck Carrington, LLP is the latest practice entity in a continuing law practice that began in the middle 1800's.
A.B. White, paternal grandfather of Lewis A. White, the former senior member in the firm, was admitted to the practice of law in 1862. He served as Montgomery County Attorney and practiced with several partners, the last of which was his son, W. Bridges White. After the death of his father, W. Bridges White opened an office at 15 North Maysville Street, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.
Lewis Apperson, father-in-law of W. Bridges White and maternal grandfather of Lewis A. White, was also an attorney and had a separate law practice beginning in December of 1981 with offices at 26 Broadway, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky where White Peck Carrington, LLP has its present office. He practiced solo and also in partnership, first with M.S. Tyler and later with John A. Judy. Lewis Apperson's father was Richard Apperson, Sr., an attorney, and his half-brother was Richard Apperson, Jr. who was an attorney and Circuit Judge.
Lewis Apperson died in 1931 and at the time he was a solo practitioner at the 26 Broadway address. On the death of Lewis Apperson, W. Bridges White moved his solo practice to the 26 Broadway office. The firm that is now White Peck Carrington, LLP has continuously practiced at the 26 Broadway address since 1931.
In 1938, Lewis A. White joined the practice of his father, W. Bridges White. His private practice was interrupted by Army service that began in 1942. When he returned from the service, Lewis A. White's father had been elected Circuit Judge, and he resumed his law practice as a solo practitioner.
Alan B. Peck joined Lewis A. White in 1968 and they formed White & Peck in 1971. Grover A. Carrington came to the firm in 1974 and became a partner in 1976 and the name was changed to White, Peck & Carrington. Michelle R. ("Shelly") Williams joined the firm in 1991 and became a partner in 1993. Stephen E. Neal joined the firm in 1994 as an associate and became a partner in 1997. M. Benjamin ("Ben")Shields joined the firm in 2002 and became a partner in 2005. Farrah D. Williams joined the firm in 2003 and was made a partner in 2006. Lewis A. White passed away on October 27, 2003.
In January of 2006, the firm's name was changed to White Peck Carrington, LLP.
