Lawyer Overview

Lisa Stephanian Burton is a partner in the Labor and Employment Practice Group and chair of the Immigration Group. She joined the firm in 1996.

Practice

Ms. Burton's experience is in representing and advising clients on all aspects of the employer-employee relationship. Uniquely, she also handles immigration law, assisting clients with such needs as securing employment-based visas and permanent residence for employees of both large and start-up companies, including, but not limited to, information technology and other professionals, executive and managerial employees, investors, medical professionals, scientists and researchers in academia and in the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries.

As an associate member of the firm's Litigation Department, Ms. Burton was an experienced advocate, representing clients before state and federal agencies as well as before state and federal courts.

Professional Activities

Ms. Burton is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Boston Women's Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Bar Association and the Armenian Bar Association. She is also a member of the board of editors for the Boston Bar Association.

Honors and Awards

Ms. Burton was named a "Massachusetts Super Lawyer" in immigration in the 2004 and 2005 issues of Boston Magazine.

Publications

Ms. Burton is the author of "Balancing the Business Side and the People Side of Things," a chapter in Labor and Employment Settlements and Negotiations: Leading Lawyers on Employment Contracts, Workplace Discrimination, and Dispute Resolution (Inside the Minds), published by Aspatore Books (2006), and of "1984 Bankruptcy Amendments: What Congress Intended by Changing Section 1475 to Section 1412," published in the Bankruptcy Development Journal (Vol. 8, No. 2, 1991). She is co-author of the "Final Rules Out on Family and Medical Leave Act," published in the Boston Business Journal.
