Lawyer Overview

Rob Faxon has represented clients in various complex matters since joining Jones Day in 1992, including the defense of companies in class action, product liability, consumer fraud, and medical device litigation, as well as in corporate governance and commercial litigation matters. He has represented companies in several different state and federal courts at trial, in connection with preliminary injunctions, and on appeal.

Rob has been involved in a number of significant civil litigation matters, including federal multidistrict litigation, litigation before the Delaware Chancery Court, and other complex state and federal litigations. He and other Jones Day attorneys successfully defended Brush Wellman in a case involving workers at the Rocky Flats nuclear facility. This defense verdict was recognized by The National Law Journal in its July 16, 2001 edition as "Verdict of the Week" and later recognized as one of the "Top 2001 Defense Verdicts." Rob was also part of the trial team that successfully defended the Lincoln Electric Company in Los Angeles Superior Court against more than 20 cases filed following the 1994 Northridge earthquake, including the lead case tried where plaintiffs sought more than $800 million under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and $100 million on their fraud and product liability claims. Recently, Rob represented several buyers in post-closing disputes where sellers misrepresented aspects of the business or violated representation related to closing.

Rob is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, and he is a member of and trial counsel to the CMBA's Ethics Committee, where he pursues investigations on behalf of the association before the Ohio Supreme Court. He authored "Discovery in American Product Liability Cases," 12 International Legal Strategy 16 (September 15, 2003) (explaining American pretrial procedure and discovery to foreign corporate counsel). In addition, he has authored and presented continuing legal education seminars on various aspects of civil practice tort reform and employer "intentional" torts.
