Peter Laun has experience in a wide variety of litigation and counseling areas, including insurance, product liability, medical device liability, toxic torts, commercial, employment, class actions, and engineering/construction. Peter has litigated in numerous federal and state courts, including courts in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Texas, Mississippi, Minnesota, New Jersey, and California, and his experience includes trials in state and federal courts, injunction actions, governmental agency proceedings, arbitrations, and mediations.

As a particular focus of his practice, Peter has represented policyholders in multimillion dollar insurance coverage cases involving property, commercial, environmental, fraud, and product liability claims. These cases have involved domestic and international insurance companies and a broad variety of form and manuscript commercial insurance policies. He has also drafted insurance policies. Peter also serves as national product liability counsel for a medical device manufacturer.

Peter has worked extensively with experts in scientific, technical, and financial areas, including accounting, economics, statistics, insurance, hydrogeology, geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering, toxicology, chemistry, and environmental science, as well as in a variety of medical disciplines. In addition, Peter has taken and defended more than 300 depositions, including numerous expert depositions. Peter has successfully challenged experts in Daubert motions and has successfully opposed Daubert challenges by others. Peter also has been extensively involved in cases with large volumes of electronic discovery.

Before joining Jones Day in 1993, Peter served as an in-house attorney with the Aluminum Company of America. Peter is an avid tennis and platform tennis player and played lacrosse in college. Before attending law school, he worked in sales and marketing for Procter & Gamble and Corning and has also worked as a chef.
