Garland, Samuel & Loeb: Leading Georgia Criminal Defense, Civil Law and Personal Injury Law Firm.

Excellence in Criminal & Civil Legal Representation.

Garland, Samuel & Loeb is renowned for their skill in both Criminal Defense and Civil Representation. This dual expertise endows GSL with a depth and breadth of advocacy skills unmarked by other litigation firms. The firm's reputation is built on decades in pursuit of one goal: obtaining justice for every client that walks through their doors.

The Garland legacy of fearless and effective courtroom litigation focuses on Criminal Defense, Personal Injury and Business Disputes in State and Federal courts. Garland, Samuel & Loeb has nine attorneys including three partners: Edward Garland, Donald Samuel and Robin Loeb.

Garland, Samuel & Loeb has successfully handled many highly publicized cases, as well as cases that are kept in strictest confidence.

On the Criminal Defense side, past clients have included.

  • Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback
  • T.I., the rap artist
  • Ray Lewis, all-pro linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens,
  • Jamal Lewis, all-pro running back for the Baltimore Ravens,
  • Dany Heatley, all-star forward for the Atlanta Thrashers,
  • Jim Williams, the protagonist in the non-fiction book, "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"

In Civil cases of Personal Injury and Business Disputes, we are not at liberty to disclose the details for many cases, but suffice it to say that the firm has negotiated many multi-million-dollar settlements, including one case for $9 million and another for $5.2 million. More importantly, we have helped innumerable clients resolve their difficulties, recover damages, and rebuild their lives.

A Long Legacy of Legal Defenders.

From the 1920s to the 1960s, the firm’s founder, Reuben Garland, was the South’s most successful and flamboyant trial lawyer. Likely to appear in court in a sky-blue silk suit, or in a tuxedo with tails, twirling a walking stick, his courtroom appearances were crowd-pleasing events. His cases were covered by magazines and newspapers in Atlanta, Georgia, and across America.

He enjoyed theatrical tactics, and he used them to disarm his opponents and delight juries. Reuben Garland held the record for the largest civil damages verdict in the state of Georgia and was recognized as the premier criminal defense attorney in the southeastern United States.

The seventh generation of family lawyers is represented by John A. Garland, standing at left with his father, Edward T. M. Garland, and a portrait of his grandfather, Reuben A. Garland, Sr.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:
Comfort Level - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
Credentials - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
Cost - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
City - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?
