Lawyer Overview
David B. Fein co-chairs Wiggin and Dana’s White-Collar Defense, Investigations and Corporate Compliance Practice Group. He represents clients in state and federal governmental investigations, conducts internal and external investigations for corporations and other entities, and counsels clients regarding corporate compliance. Mr. Fein is also a Visiting Lecturer in Law at the Yale Law School, where he teaches a class on Federal Criminal Prosecution. From 2002 to 2009, he served as a member of the firm's executive committee.
Previously, Mr. Fein served as Associate Counsel to President Clinton. Mr. Fein’s portfolio at the White House included anti-crime initiatives, communications issues, the proposed victims’ rights constitutional amendment and the Administration’s regulation to combat underage use of tobacco.
Before working at the White House, Mr. Fein was a federal prosecutor for six years in the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. He held senior positions in the Office, including Counsel to U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White and Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division. Mr. Fein prosecuted complex cases involving official corruption, racketeering, money laundering, bank fraud, securities fraud, violent crimes, illegal wiretapping and narcotics offenses.
In May 2008, Mr. Fein and his colleague Scott Corrigan served as lead trial counsel for a CVS executive who faced 23 felony counts related to an alleged scheme to bribe a Rhode Island state senator. The federal criminal case was prosecuted by the Department of Justice's Public Integrity Division and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Rhode Island. After a month-long trial in federal court in Rhode Island, the jury acquitted their client on all counts.
Mr. Fein graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College. He then attended N.Y.U. School of Law, where he graduated Order of the Coif and was a member of the Senior Board of the N.Y.U. Law Review . Following law school, Mr. Fein clerked for the Honorable Frank M. Coffin of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Mr. Fein currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Guiding Eyes for the Blind in New York, and previously served on the boards of the Federal Bar Council in New York City and the Stanwich School in Greenwich. Mr. Fein has been selected to serve on the Committee on Admissions and Grievances for the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and he previously served on the Program & Planning Committee for the Judicial Conference of the Second Circuit.
