Law Firm Overview

First and foremost, as a firm, we understand the emotions that are a part of any immigration matter whether for family or employment purposes. We recognize that in addition to legal issues, you are considering moving to a new country to live or to accept employment, perhaps moving your spouse and children with you - taking them away from an environment with which they are familiar and are perhaps resistant to leave. When you add that whether or not you can accept a job depends on the decision of an administrative person who does not know you or the company involved, the anxiety only builds. We know the more information we can offer you, the less anxious and stressful the process becomes. We can give you the knowledge you need to make the right decision.

Our clients appreciate the personal care and user-friendly atmosphere of our firm. Our legal assistants, Sue Lawrie and Patti Mitchell, can be a big help during the process. They are both familiar with the steps involved and the time needed for consideration of the individual applications. They are accessible to take your questions and, in cases where they cannot provide an answer, they will ensure that Dick gets back to you as soon as possible to address your concern.

Our firm handles both family and employment-related immigration cases. We understand what drives a business to obtain talent from foreign labor markets. Especially in today’s economy, we see many employers - particularly in the health-care industry or high tech fields - that need to obtain employees from outside the United States. We appreciate how significant the wrong determination from the Citizenship and Immigration Service (CIS, formerly INS) can be to your business.

We do not handle deportation cases or petitions for asylum. We, however, do have a network of other attorneys with whose work we are familiar and to whom we refer your case. In some cases, we are able to handle out-bound immigration to other countries. Where we cannot assist you, many times we may be able to aid you with a referral to a foreign attorney.

The competency of our firm is underscored by the frequent lectures given on immigration law by Mr. Pierce. Dick has addressed faculty, staff, and students at Eastern Michigan University about students who seek work permission upon graduation at least four times each year for a number of years as well as on other immigration issues. He has also been a lecturer at Ave Maria School of Law in Ann Arbor, speaking on matters surrounding employment. He has been a speaker at meetings of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and various business organizations, published articles on immigration law, and chaired committees for the Michigan Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Case Referrals

If you are an attorney with a client who is facing issues in this arena, either as an employer or as a candidate for potential employment, we want to be a resource for you. Our firm has established many beneficial working relationships with attorneys and their clients here in Michigan and throughout the United States. We continue to receive referrals from these attorneys because we respect the relationship you have fostered with your clients and understand our role in that dynamic. If your client has questions and you need help finding answers, please call us.
