Lawyer Overview

Tony Gangemi is a partner in the firm's Corporate Practice Department. He is based in the firm's New Haven office, where he devotes his practice to intellectual property law and patent preparation, prosecution, and litigation.

As a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group, Tony counsels clients on the development of intellectual property strategies covering all forms of intellectual property (i.e., patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets). He assists in the implementation of those strategies by preparing and prosecuting both patent and trademark applications and advising clients on copyright and trade secret matters. In addition to helping clients procure intellectual property rights, he also is involved in intellectual property litigation to enforce those rights. Tony's diverse technical background has allowed him to draft numerous patent applications covering a wide range of technical areas including the mechanical and electro-mechanical arts. He has completed many patentability studies and prepared numerous infringement and validity opinions, as well as conducted Examiner interviews and prior art searches within the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Before joining Wiggin and Dana, Tony was an associate attorney with the Burlington, Vermont office of a regional general practice firm, the Denver, Colorado office of a national general practice firm, and patent counsel with The Procter & Gamble Corporation in Cincinnati, OH. In all previous positions, he specialized in patent law and other intellectual property matters. Prior to attending law school, Tony was an environmental engineer in Denver, Colorado for almost six years. As an environmental engineer, he was involved in the design, construction, start-up, and operation of advanced wastewater treatment facilities.

Tony graduated with a B.S. in Engineering and a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and received his J.D. and L.L.M. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center.
