Givens Pursley LLP began as a four-lawyer commercial real estate and litigation firm in 1977 and rapidly established itself in both fields. The firm expanded, attracting seasoned practitioners who brought new areas of expertise including bankruptcy, corporate, employment, environmental, health care, legislative, litigation, mining, natural resources, regulated utilities, securities, taxation, and water law. Today, Givens Pursley is a full- service law firm and one of Idaho's largest.

Givens Pursley's lawyers are recognized both regionally and nationally as leading lawyers in their fields. Partners have gone on to become an Idaho Supreme Court Judge, and candidate for statewide elected office. In 1990, U.S. Senator James McClure, the former chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, joined the firm as a partner and now maintains an active practice focusing primarily on natural resources and environmental matters.
