Lawyer Overview

Julie Broas practices in the labor and employment area and has been actively involved in all elements of labor law litigation, including administrative hearings and appellate review of unfair labor practice cases, compliance matters, and arbitration proceedings. She also has experience in advising clients regarding a wide variety of traditional labor law issues, including collective bargaining negotiations, successorship issues, and decision and effects bargaining obligations arising out of corporate restructurings. Julie has significant experience in advising and representing clients in administrative and federal court proceedings involving the Fair Labor Standards Act, the WARN Act, and employment discrimination statutes; and she frequently counsels employers in all aspects of human resource and personnel matters.

Julie is an active volunteer with the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, a legal services organization that seeks to protect the rights of homeless and other low-income people in the District of Columbia through direct representation, class action litigation, policy and budget advocacy, and community outreach and organizing.

Julie is admitted to the Courts of Appeals in the Third and District of Columbia Circuits and to the U.S. District Courts in the Eastern District of Virginia and the District of Columbia. She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association. She is coauthor, with Daniel H. Bromberg, of "Baby UI: The End of Unemployment Insurance As We Know It?" 26 Employee Relations Law Journal 35 (Autumn 2000), and, with Glen D. Nager, of "Enforcement Issues: A Practical Overview," 54 Louisiana Law Review 1473 (July 1994).
