The firm consists of the original Mahoney, Dougherty and Mahoney firm and the former Miller & Neary firm. The firms merged on October 1, 1989. The successor firm specializes in litigation and general practice including the areas of appellate law, business organizations, commercial litigation, construction litigation, corporate law, dram shop, employment law, estate planning and probate, insurance law, no-fault, products liability, professional liability, real estate, workers' compensation and personal injury litigation. The firm practices in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Iowa and South Dakota.

Mahoney, Dougherty and Mahoney was founded in 1922 by G.P. Mahoney, an Irish immigrant, who obtained a civil engineering degree at the University of Minnesota and a law degree from the St. Paul College of Law, now the William Mitchell College of Law. During law school, he was a claims representative for the United States Casualty Company. After admission to the bar, he began trying their lawsuits. Since then, the firm has grown and expanded. It has had various names over its 75 year history, to-wit: G.P. Mahoney; Mahoney, Morrison and Cragg; Mahoney, Morrison, Cragg and Barnett; Mahoney and Mahoney; and Mahoney, Dougherty, Angell and Mahoney. The firm has had its present name since the early 1970's.

Since 1922, the firm has primarily engaged in the investigation, preparation, trial and appeal of civil litigation. In recent years, a substantial portion of our practice has been devoted to the defense of product liability, malpractice and hospital liability, major toxic tort (asbestos, DES and other drugs, hazardous waste and environmental litigation), as well as general liability and automobile related litigation. We have a substantial practice in construction litigation, insurance coverage issues and other types of litigation involving insurance related matters, including workers compensation. We represent insurers, self-insurers, risk managers and individual firms and corporations. We operate throughout Minnesota and in the adjacent states. The firm has had an A V rating from Martindale-Hubbell for many years.

The Miller & Neary firm was founded in 1964. Insurance defense and related matters were a mainstay of its practice. Additionally, Miller & Neary brings to our firm extensive experience in the general practice area.

The firm has occupied its own building at the above address since 1975. In 1987 the building was completely remodeled and equipped with state-of-the-art communication, word processing and data processing equipment, and a modern current law and reference library.

We have a staff comprised of an administrator, legal assistants, secretaries, law clerks, messengers and office clerks sufficient to provide our clients prompt and efficient service.
