Lawyer Overview

Scott is Of Counsel and a former shareholder and president of the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. He is based in our Minneapolis office and is a member of the Labor and Employment Section.

Scott has been engaged in active trial practice since 1970. Although his background is in general litigation, for the past 25 years, Scott has focused on defending corporations in all aspects of employment litigation. He also serves as a mediator in employment disputes. 

In 1997, Scott was honored as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He has been selected annually since 2002 as one of “America's Leading Business Lawyers” in the area of employment by Chambers and Partners, a United Kingdom-based publishing company. He has also been selected for inclusion in the annual Best Lawyers in America in the areas of labor and employment, commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Scott has been recognized on the "top 100" list in Minnesota Super Lawyers as well.

Scott is admitted to practice in Minnesota state and federal district courts; the 8th, 9th and 10th circuits; and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has been an active member of state and federal bar committees and former chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association Committee on Labor and Employment Law. Scott has been a frequent lecturer and course chair of continuing legal education programs.

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Scott received both his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota. Scott was a prosecutor and served as city attorney of St. Paul prior to joining Briggs in 1975.
