Lawyer Overview
Since joining Jones Day from her position as section chief in the EPA's Office of Enforcement, Heidi Bumpers has litigated RCRA enforcement cases, Superfund and natural resource damage cases, and EPCRA, OSHA, and asbestos enforcement actions. She has negotiated several voluntary cleanup agreements and private cost recovery settlements. Heidi has been lead environmental counsel on a number of significant transactions at Jones Day and has represented purchasers, lenders, and sellers in complex corporate acquisitions and real estate deals. Her client counseling work has included setting up an environmental management system for a high-tech international manufacturing company, coordinating environmental matters and legislative strategy for a major tire manufacturer, and advising clients on compliance audits, records retention, EPCRA filings, pollution prevention, multimedia inspections, and release reporting. She also has been involved in counseling and regulatory interpretation issues regarding compliance with European Union and international environmental requirements.
Heidi serves on the board of advisors for Environmental Counselor and regularly lectures on environmental law issues. She is recommended in environmental law in the District of Columbia in Chambers' America's Leading Lawyers for Business. She is a member of the Oregon and Washington, D.C. Bar associations (Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Section) and the Environmental Law Institute. She was awarded the U.S. Bronze Medal for outstanding service at the Environmental Protection Agency in 1986.
