Law Firm Overview

The Right Beginning

Immigration can seem like a simple process at first. In reality, it is often complex and confusing. The laws are difficult to understand. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) rarely has the time for detailed help. And the steps that worked well for a friend or relative may not apply at all in your case.

The immigration attorneys at Miley & Brown can get you off to a good start. All attorneys except Gary L. Davis are board certified in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. We understand how the U.S. government works, which laws apply, what forms to complete and where to file them. Most importantly, we can discuss the details of your case, identify the obstacles and outline the procedures that will reach your goal.

The Pitfalls of Self-Representation

Maybe you've considered handling your own case. Unless you've had legal training self-representation can be a mistake.

It's easy to make errors.

Many applicants fall into difficulties by making errors in the process or paperwork. Errors can delay or even prevent permanent residence or citizenship. They can also create higher legal fees than retaining an attorney at the outset.

The advise of friends and relative may not fit your case.

No two cases are exactly alike. Significant details differ. Regulations and policies also change. So, beware of other people's experiences and well-meaning advice.

The INS seldom has the time for adequate help

The INS is an agency of the U.S. Department of Justice, created mostly to enforce laws - not to assist in the public. While INS personnel may try to help you, their training is limited. Even if you ask the right questions, they may answer incorrectly. Also, the INS is unable to spend enough time you for a thorough, fair evaluation for your case. As a result, INS guidance may not be in your best interest.
