Lawyer Overview
Brett Berlin's practice focuses primarily on corporate bankruptcy, financial restructuring, and other insolvency-related and debtor creditor matters, both in litigation and transactional contexts. He has led or played significant roles in chapter 11 representations of debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, committees, transfer recipients, debtor "insiders," non-debtor plan proponents, and potential purchasers of bankruptcy assets. Brett also has provided insolvency-related advice to Firm clients in a wide variety of out-of-court matters.
In addition, Brett has represented numerous Firm clients in nonbankruptcy civil litigation in state and federal courts, including cases concerning breach of contract, contract interpretation, employment-related covenants, fraud and misrepresentation, letters of credit, the federal False Claims Act, and other complex commercial matters.
Brett is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute. Since summer 2003, he has served on the advisory board for the Emory University Bankruptcy Developments Journal. He is a regular participant in the Atlanta Bar Association's pro bono Reaffirmation Project for unrepresented consumer debtors. Before joining Jones Day, he practiced for four years in the financial restructuring group of an Atlanta-based "AmLaw 100" law firm.
