Lawyer Overview

Greg Hanthorn practices in the litigation area and has tried cases in the Georgia state court system, the Tennessee state court system, the U.S. District Court, and before American Arbitration Association and other alternative dispute resolution tribunals. He has extensive experience in fiduciary litigation; class actions in federal securities, RICO, ERISA, insurance, consumer credit, and usury cases; and in major product liability, construction, federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, and leveraged buyout fraud litigation.

Greg's varied litigation career has included representing the estate of Margaret Mitchell's brother in interpleader litigation involving ownership of unique papers concerning the book and movie Gone With the Wind, obtaining a permanent injunction against union organizers demonstrating against the property owner hosting a national morning news program during the Democrat Party National Nominating Convention (the injunction was affirmed by the Georgia Supreme Court), obtaining federal appellate victories concerning the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act and affirming summary disposition in business disputes, and obtaining trial court and appellate victories in the Georgia court system clarifying the limits of the duties owed by individual and professional fiduciaries. In the product liability arena, Greg has successfully represented R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in a four-month jury trial in Shelby County, Tennessee (defense verdict) and other manufacturers of products ranging from respirators for use by workers in manufacturing operations to complex medical equipment.

Greg was named by Atlanta magazine and Law & Politics Media as a "Georgia Super Lawyer" in the area of business litigation in 2008 and 2009 and was listed in the premiere (April 2008) and 2009 issues of Super Lawyers — Corporate Counsel Edition in the area of business litigation. Greg is a frequent presenter at programs sponsored by the Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism and serves as co-chair of the Professionalism Subcommittee for the American Bar Association Section of Litigation's Ethics and Professionalism Committee. Greg is chairman of the board of directors of the Atlanta Shakespeare Company, is a master in the Lamar Inn of Court (where he also serves on the executive committee), and is a member of the board of visitors for Berry College, among other civic, charitable, and church activities.
