David A. Burge Co., L.P.A. is a patent and trademark law firm serving independent inventors, and large and small companies and corporations having mechanical inventions to patent and trademarks to register. The firm focuses on work conducted before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office -- on registering and renewing the registrations of trademarks, and on patenting and maintaining patents on mechanical innovations, industrial and production processes, medical devices, and electromechanical devices and systems.

We welcome new patent and trademark work and strive to exceed the expectations of our clients. We file provisional applications for clients who understand the value of establishing early filing dates with the USPTO months ahead of when follow-up utility applications may need to be filed. Although much of our practice centers about the filing and prosecution of utility patent applications, an unusually high percentage of our patent practice is devoted to the filing and prosecution of design patent applications protecting selected appearance features of clients' products that also may be entitled to the protection of trademark registrations.

Patent search work -- including patentability searches, validity and infringement searches -- has long been a mainstay of our practice. Finding patents that address tricky design problems so you need not "reinvent the wheel" in solving a design problem can often save our clients weeks of costly engineering work.

We also counsel clients in "designing around" patents that present infringement concerns, and have had good success in locating expired patents that disclose design-around options that can be copied without fear of infringing active patents.

We do not charge for initial consultations with potential new clients, and accept credit cards for the convenience of our clients.
