Lawyer Overview

Masatami Otsuka practiced litigation in Japan from 1961 to 1971 and then served with the Japanese law firm of Blakemore & Mitsuki from 1971 until 1990 and was considered to be one of the premier tax lawyers in the country. He specializes in corporate and individual income taxes and gift and inheritance taxes, with a particular emphasis on the international aspects of these areas. He is also a Japanese certified public accountant and has passed the Uniform CPA Examination of the United States.

He is a coauthor of Tax Law in Japan and Business Operations in Japan and a contributor to the Japan section of Global Estate Planning — A Practical Guide to the Principles of Estate, Inheritance and Gift Taxes. He also serves as a national reporter for Tax Management International Forum as well as a national editor of Intertax.
