Lawyer Overview
Richard is a Civil Litigator in our Collection department with experience in many areas of Civil Practice. These include: Landlord-Tenant; all types of Personal Injury matters, including Professional Liability; and Family Law.
During his career, Richard was associated, for over (28) years, with the Law Office of Gelman & Gelman and became an income partner. His work included representing numerous families in Private Placement Adoption matters and he became an expert in that sensitive practice area, even representing some attorneys. Richard has also presented Labor Grievances and developed skill in the defense of various Municipal Court matters.
Richard was the last Judge of the Municipal Court of Mt. Tabor in Morris County, New Jersey from 1977-79. He also sat as an Arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and currently sits as an Arbitrator in the Superior Court of the State of New Jersey Automobile and Personal Injury Programs and has done so since their inception. Since 1999, he has been a Mediator approved by the Administrative Office of the Courts of the State of New Jersey (AOC) and has been a Certified Arbitrator in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey since 2002.
A member of the Bergen County Bar Association, Richard is currently on the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committee and has been a member of the Judicial Performance and Judicial Selection Committees.
Richard currently performs community service as a member of The Kiwanis Club of Randolph, The Historical Society of Old Randolph and The Freedom Festival Parade Committee. He is also the Announcer for the annual Freedom Festival Parade in Randolph Township since 2002 and is a former Environmental Commissioner and past member of the Open Space Committee of Randolph Township as well as a past Member of the Board of Trustees of Temple Shalom in Succasunna, New Jersey.
