Lawyer Overview
Tom Jones practices in the area of complex litigation and arbitration, with extensive experience in product liability matters, securities and corporate acquisition litigation, and appellate litigation.
Tom has acted as lead or co-lead counsel in numerous litigation matters and arbitrations, including matters involving alleged toxic exposure, the valuation and disposition of securities by officers and investors in a publicly held corporation, allegations of backdating of stock options, disputes over commercial agreements, and product failure in the aviation industry. In addition, he recently served as lead counsel in litigation regarding a post-acquisition valuation dispute and the application of alternative dispute resolution procedures to that matter. He also serves as counsel in a matter relating to participation in an international humanitarian aid program. He has extensive experience in the application of novel science in the courtroom, successfully excluding or defending numerous experts in trial matters. In the past two years, he has submitted briefs as counsel of record in the United States Supreme Court, multiple federal court of appeals, and state supreme courts. His appellate work has covered a diversity of issues for both parties and amici, including the application of the Federal Arbitration Act to third parties, the scope of federal anti-terrorism laws, novel product liability issues, and a host of constitutional questions.
Tom is head of Jones Day's pro bono program in Pittsburgh where he supervises dozens of matters on behalf of indigent litigants and public interest groups. He frequently lectures on topics relating to expert preparation and disclosure.
