Lawyer Overview

Ronald Y. K. Leong joined Watanabe Ing & Komeiji LLP as an associate in 1979 and was made a partner in 1984. His practice concentrates in the areas of management labor and general corporate law.

Mr. Leong heads the law firm's Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits Group and has practiced before the National Labor Relations Board, the National Mediation Board and before various other State and Federal Agencies. He has served as chief spokesperson in collective bargaining negotiations and has engaged in all forms of alternative dispute resolution including arbitration and mediation. He has served as seminar faculty for the National Labor Relations Board Educational Conference, American Arbitration Association, the Council on Education in Management, the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Program, the State of Hawaii, Office of Affirmative Action, the City and County of Honolulu, Employee Association, and the National Business Institute. In this capacity, he has lectured on all aspects of labor relations, EEO and general employment related laws, before both private and public employers.

From 1973 to 1977, Mr. Leong was an officer in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the U.S. Air Force. Recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal, he obtained his Honorable Discharge with the rank of Captain. Prior to joining the law firm, he also served from 1977 to 1979 as Deputy Attorney General, State of Hawaii. Assigned initially to the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, he was later appointed as Legal Counsel to the Board of Regents of the University of Hawaii and supervising Deputy Attorney General for central administration, University of Hawaii.

Mr. Leong is a member of the American Bar Association and the Hawaii Bar Association.
