Lawyer Overview
Bryan Kocher is a commercial litigator who has tried jury and nonjury cases in various state and federal courts, as well as alternative dispute resolution forums. He has extensive experience in complex litigation matters, including the representation of national manufacturers in complex product liability suits alleging toxic exposures and novel theories of liability. He has served as lead or co-lead counsel in commercial contract disputes, construction defect cases, class actions, employment matters, securities litigation, appellate matters, constitutional disputes, personal injury cases, and general tort litigation. Bryan also has counseled clients on significant business-related issues such as product warranties, contractual liability limitations, and immigration compliance programs.
In addition to his general litigation practice, Bryan has a broad range of experience in construction-related matters. He has counseled clients in all phases of the construction process and concentrates his construction practice on the representation of contractors and owners in litigation and counseling relating to the drafting and interpretation of construction contracts, bid protests, payment and lien disputes, bonding issues, delay claims, changes in the scope of work, and claims for defective construction. He has represented contractors and owners on public and private projects, and his experience includes claims resolution and litigation before state and federal courts, administrative agencies, and the American Arbitration Association.
Bryan is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (Litigation Section) and the Allegheny County Bar Association (Litigation and Construction Sections). He has been active in community service, including service on the Finance Committee of St. Columbkille Parish, a six-year term as a member of the Three Rivers Work Force Investment Board (including the Executive Committee and chair of the Appointments and Nominations Committee), and a three-year term as a board member of Operation Charlie, Inc., a nonprofit charity serving underprivileged children, families, and the elderly in the Pittsburgh area.
He also has participated in the ACBA VIP program (presenting seminars to the elderly) and has written and published materials on construction law topics, including "Construction Liens and Claims Payment" (1994 Lorman Education Services) and "Battling for Bucks" presented to a local chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors.
