Lawyer Overview

Zachary Fasman is a partner in the employment practice of Paul Hastings in New York. He chairs the Employment Law Group, where he represents management in labor relations, equal employment and employee benefit matters and litigation. He has lectured and written extensively on current legal issues, and is the author of What Business Must Know About the ADA (1992) and the co-author of The Employment Law Compliance Handbook (1988) and The Equal Employment Audit Manual (1983). Mr. Fasman is a member of the bars of New York, Illinois and the District of Columbia, the United States Supreme Court, and seven federal circuit courts. He has tried and argued cases in every one of those jurisdictions, including two successful arguments before the United States Supreme Court, where he also has submitted numerous amicus curiae briefs on behalf of a variety of different organizations. He has litigated hundreds of cases in the courts, ranging from nationwide class actions to jury trials of individual employment discrimination claims. In addition to his extensive litigation background, Mr. Fasman maintains a substantial and sophisticated traditional labor law practice and regularly represents employers before the National Labor Relations Board and in the federal courts in labor-related litigation on diverse subjects that include federal preemption as well as labor antitrust. Mr. Fasman is a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers; a member of the advisory board of the New York University Law School’s Center for Labor and Employment Law; and a member of the Labor Relations Committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law, the International Who's Who of Management Labour and Employment Law, was named "one of the New York Area's Best Lawyers" by New York Magazine in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and, as well, was included in New York's Super Lawyers 2006 and 2007. He has lectured on diverse topics at numerous law schools throughout the country, served for many years on the District of Columbia Bar’s Legal Ethics Committee, and was a member of its Taskforce on Civility in the Practice of Law. He is a member of the Labor Law Section of the American Bar Association; a current member of the Committee on the Development of the Law under the National Labor Relations Act and of the International Labor Law Committee; and has held leadership positions in the ABA’s Equal Employment Law Committee and in its Section on Individual Rights and Responsibilities. Mr. Fasman received his J.D. degree, with honors, from the University of Michigan, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, and his B.A. degree from Northwestern University. He is married and the father of three grown children.
