Lawyer Overview

John Alexander has an extensive background in the practice of Family Law. Board certified in Family Law since 1984, his experience encompasses divorce and modification cases. A special focus of John's practice has been his work in child-related cases involving questions of custody, possession and access, the allocation of parental rights, and, more recently, cases involving domicile restrictions and relocation.

He has written numerous articles on Family Law topics and has been a guest speaker at Family Law seminars throughout Texas and Mexico.

John began his Family Law career in 1979 when he assisted Mike McCurley in the revision of the Texas Family Law Practice Manual published by the State Bar of Texas and utilized by most Texas practitioners. As a member of the revision committee, he assisted in two subsequent revisions to the manual.

For most of his career, John practiced in Irving, Texas, where he served as president of the Irving Bar Association and the North Texas Family Law Specialists' Association. He also has been an active member of the Dallas Bar Association family law section, previously serving a three-year term on its board of directors.

John is a graduate of Austin College in Sherman, Texas, where he was a member of the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology in 1974. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, in 1979.

John is married to Susi Alexander and has one stepson.
