Charles Gering is a partner at Foley & Lardner LLP. Mr. Gering is a member of the General Commercial Litigation and Environmental Regulation Practices.

Mr. Gering focuses his practice on federal and state court litigation matters involving environmental, complex commercial and tort issues. His environmental practice includes defending and prosecuting private cost recovery actions; defending civil and criminal enforcement and toxic tort cases; and advising clients concerning compliance and transactional matters. In addition, Mr. Gering has counseled clients with respect to their obligations under all major federal environmental laws and their state analogs, and has substantial experience in airport issues and agricultural land use and compliance issues.

Mr. Gering also has handled a wide variety of complex commercial and tort litigation matters including breach of contract, fraud, health care, insurance coverage, consumer protection, secured transaction, class action, and product liability issues. His extensive litigation experience includes all phases of trial and appellate practice in matters involving equitable and legal issues.

Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Gering was a partner in the Chicago office of McDermott, Will & Emery LLP.

Mr. Gering graduated from the Indiana University School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 1992), where he was the notes editor of the Adelphia Law Journal. He received his bachelor's degree from Northwestern University (B.A., 1987).

Mr. Gering is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Illinois, the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Sixth, Eighth and Tenth Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois and the Eastern District of Michigan. Mr. Gering is a member of the trial bar of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association.
