Anna M. Elento-Sneed is the head of the Labor and Employment Law Section. She has worked with a broad range of client industries, including hotels, golf courses, retailers, tour companies, restaurants, health care facilities, financial institutions, foreign companies, and large conglomerates. Some samples of her recent work include:

Wrongful Termination - Represented shipping lines in wrongful termination lawsuit involving claims for violation of public policy, breach of contract, negligence, defamation, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress filed by employee terminated for sexual harassment. Moved for Summary judgment and obtained a ruling in favor of the employer.

Equal Employment Opportunity - Represented medical center against discrimination suit filed by an employee which included an EEOC charge, a Title VII lawsuit, three union grievances, and unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board, and a workers' compensation claim.

Labor Law - Regularly assists clients in negotiating union contracts and in defending unfair labor practice charges before the National Labor Relations Board. Also assisted numerous clients involved in union organizing campaigns in Hawaii, Guam and the CNMI.

Safety and Health - Advised a Large Hawaii conglomerate on restructuring its return-to-work program for employees on workers' compensation after passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Advised the client on the interaction of the ADA with workers' compensation.

Personal Management - Represented 1,000-employee conglomerate in implementing a sexual harassment policy and training its supervisors and managers. Has also assisted dozens of small and large companies in drafting employee handbooks, employment contracts, and independent contractor agreements.

Employee Benefits - Assisted golf course client in developing a benefits package to attract good employees and to provide benefits competitive with unionized companies. Drafted summaries of the benefits for employees.

Government Contractors - Drafted substance abuse program for company to enable it to comply with drug-free workplace regulations governing federal contractors.

Business Transactions and Operations - Assisted 500-employee company with reduction in force. Analyzed management structure, determined how to reorganize the operations, established criteria for selecting employees for layoff, and conducted the layoffs.

Wage and Hour Law - Advised 100-employee company on structuring wage agreement with union which allowed the company to increase the maximum hours worked by each employee without incurring overtime pay.
