Mike Merlo is widely recognized as one of the nation's leading aviation attorneys and one of the region's outstanding trial lawyers. Mike concentrates in aviation, catastrophic event, insurance coverage and product liability litigation. He also practices in the areas of excess, surplus and reinsurance litigation and has served as general counsel to the Excess/Surplus Lines Claims Association for over twenty years. Mike is a licensed pilot and a member of the American and Illinois State Bar Associations, the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute.
Mike was admitted to practice in Illinois in 1967 and Florida in 1997. He is also admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, including the trial bar for the Northern District. Mike graduated from John Carroll University in 1963 and Northwestern University School of Law in 1966.
