Lawyer Overview

John H. Burtch is a litigator with an active practice before state and federal courts as well as administrative agencies. In the judicial arena, he has most recently worked in products liability litigation, successfully defending major manufacturers of asbestos-containing products in several lawsuits. He has also handled products liability litigation in other industries, including oil and gas.

In addition, Mr. Burtch has been involved in medical malpractice defense, business, construction, First Amendment, and civil rights litigation. He is currently representing a major metropolitan hospital in its malpractice litigation and has argued several cases before the Ohio Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Mr. Burtch has appeared regularly before the Ohio Real Estate Commission, the Bureau of Workers' Compensation, and the Ohio Industrial Commission and has handled judicial appeals from these agencies. He has also handled several library funding appeals before the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals and regularly counsels libraries on funding issues.

Mr. Burtch has extensive experience in the representation of trade associations. He speaks regularly at trade association meetings on subjects ranging from the antitrust and tax implications affecting trade associations to professional standards and arbitration. He has successfully defended a national, state, and local trade association in several complex antitrust cases brought by private litigants and state and federal agencies.
