STEPHEN J. STRAUSS received his B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from American University in 1980 and his J.D. in 1983 from Southwestern University.  He specializes in trademark, copyright, unfair competition and trade secret law, including prosecution and litigation matters. Mr. Strauss also has extensive experience in prosecuting and litigating trademarks in foreign countries.

Mr. Strauss has represented a wide range of diverse clients including biomedical device manufacturers, restaurants, Las Vegas hotels and casinos, clothing and toy manufacturers, magazine and book publishers, advertising agencies, computer software developers and media and entertainment companies. Mr. Strauss' roster of clients also includes a number of well known celebrities, sports personalities and recording artists.

He has authored Don't Be Burned by Berne: A Guide to the Changes in Copyright Laws as a Result of the Berne Convention Implementation Act of 1988, Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society (1989); Beat the Clock: The Effect of Section 412 of the Copyright Act on Post-Infringement Registration, Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office Society (1990); Don't Be Burned by Berne II: Recent Changes to the Copyright Act Regarding Architectural Works, Copyright World (1992). Also, he has lectured extensively on various aspects of intellectual property law before the International Trademark Association, Los Angeles Intellectual Property Association, Beverly Hills and Century City Bar Associations, California Furniture Manufacturers Association and others. Mr. Strauss has also been featured in articles published in the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Business Journal, Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal, Louisville Courier-Journal, Las Vegas Sun and the Hollywood Reporter.  He has also been the co-editor of the California State Bar's Intellectual Property Law Journal, New Matter.  Mr. Strauss has also been a consultant to the United States Secret Service and the United States Internal Revenue Service on intellectual property law related matters, and is an Advisory Member of the Visual Effects Society (a non-profit professional, honorary society representing visual effects practitioners in all areas of entertainment).

He is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia. He is also admitted in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Ninth and Federal Circuits, and the U.S. District Court for the Central and Southern Districts of California. He is a member of the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
