John Hintz is a partner in the firm's Litigation/Controversy Department, and a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group. He joined the firm in 2004.

Practice

Mr. Hintz has extensive experience in intellectual property litigation. He has worked on all aspects of patent disputes and has litigated in federal courts throughout the country and before the International Trade Commission. He also has significant transactional, licensing and counseling experience, including advising clients on the IP aspects of mergers and acquisitions, as well as on the licensing of IP assets.

Mr. Hintz has represented clients in a wide range of industries, including financial services, computer simulations, commodity chemicals, polymers, process control, life sciences and Internet technology. His pro bono experience includes obtaining the reversal of a decision that would have resulted in deportation of a client.

Mr. Hintz joined WilmerHale after spending 16 years with a prominent intellectual property firm in New York.

Recent Highlights

• Argued Markman hearings in the Eastern District of Texas, the Northern District of Illinois, and the Southern District of New York
• Part of team representing OutlookSoft in a patent infringement suit brought by Hyperion Solutions in the Eastern District of Texas. Jury found no infringement and that the two Hyperion patents in question were invalid.
• Co-lead counsel in defense of carpet manufacturer at bench trial against charge of inequitable conduct in procurement of a patent
• Lead counsel on damages issues in enforcement of three patents on browser technology
• Won summary judgment defeating claims of trade dress infringement and literal patent infringement for maker of miniature solenoid valves
