Lawyer Overview

Lisa Gates has extensive experience in a wide variety of complex commercial and business litigation in federal and state trial and appellate courts and in bankruptcy court. She has handled cases involving energy services contracts, information technology contracts, UCC issues, transportation and other contracts, business torts, unfair competition, fraudulent transfers, employment, trademarks, trade secrets, patents, ERISA, personal injury, product liability, toxic tort, consumer fraud, corporate governance, bankruptcy, and real estate.

Lisa was second-chair trial counsel in a breach of contract action in which Jones Day obtained a $47 million judgment on a jury verdict for the client. Lisa had primary responsibility for all aspects of trial preparation for the case. She has acted as lead and supporting trial counsel in bench trials and has conducted evidentiary hearings in bankruptcy court.

Trained as an analytical chemist, Lisa is well-suited to handle cases involving science and technology. She has prosecuted and defended cases involving various scientific issues, including chemistry, electrochemistry, manufacturing technologies, computer technologies, and toxicology.

Lisa is a regular participant in pro bono clinics sponsored by the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and staffed by Jones Day.

She is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.
