RICHARD A. BARDIN received his B.S. in engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1957 and his J.D. in 1965 from the University of Southern California where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. He joined the firm in 1959 as a law clerk while attending law school and became a partner in 1967. Mr. Bardin now holds the position of Senior Counsel with the firm.

Mr. Bardin specializes in intellectual property litigation, primarily in the patent, trade secret, trademark and unfair competition fields; in evaluating intellectual property rights; in licensing; and in structuring and guiding corporate patent and trademark programs. He has had primary responsibility as lead counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants in several hundred intellectual property actions in state and federal courts throughout the country. His experience includes both judge and jury trials in protracted cases involving a variety of technologies and issues. For many years, he has had a special interest in medical companies, including the full spectrum from start-up ventures to major corporations. During his years of practice, he has acted as a court-appointed settlement master, an expert witness and as an arbitrator in technology and patent disputes, and as an advisor to venture capitalists, corporate management and boards of directors concerning intellectual property and related business matters.

Mr. Bardin is admitted to practice in California and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the State Bar of California, Los Angeles County Bar Association, American Bar Association, Los Angeles Patent Law Association, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
